Pedestrian Killed in Truck Accident in Chandina, Cumilla

A 55-year-old pedestrian, Abdul Khalek, was killed when a goods-laden truck lost control and overturned on the roadside in Chandina Upazila, Cumilla.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning (August 21) on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Madhaiya area of Chandina. The deceased Abdul Khalek was a resident of Betuya village in Sultanpur Union, Debidwar Upazila, Cumilla, and worked as a butcher.

Local bamboo trader Safiqul Islam reported that Abdul Khalek was walking along the highway around 5:00 AM to slaughter cattle when the half-loaded truck, coming from Chattogram, lost control. The truck smashed into an electric pole, ran over Khalek, and overturned into a ditch, killing him on the spot. Family members arrived at the scene and retrieved his body from under the truck, taking it home.

Highway Police OC Ruhul Amin from Eliotganj Thana confirmed the incident, stating that a case has been filed at the police station. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, and the vehicle has been recovered and placed in police custody.
