Gulshan Extortion Case: Jane Alam Apu Claims Discussion with Adviser Asif Mahmud Before Raid

Jane Alam Apu, arrested in connection with an extortion case at the residence of former MP Shammi Ahmed in Gulshan, has claimed he spoke with Adviser Asif Mahmud before the operation. These statements were made in a recently leaked video.

In the video, Apu says, “In the Gulshan extortion case, I was the one seen carrying the bag of money. The coordinators hailed as heroes last year are now accused of extortion.” He raises questions, stating, “Do you know that at 5 a.m. that day, we informed the DC and AC of Gulshan and conducted the raid at Shammi’s residence with law enforcement in an official process? Before the raid, I had a conversation with Adviser Asif Mahmud at a location in Gulshan.”

He further adds, “Why is there no mention of the early morning law enforcement operation? We learned Shammi was there but fled after receiving information. I challenge those who made us villains overnight with a two-and-a-half-minute viral video—publish the CCTV footage from the previous night if you have the courage. Let’s see who was calling and whose call prompted Shammi to leave the house.”

Apu claims that the next day, Riyad called him to the house, saying, “Her husband is still there, come quickly.” Apu continues, “After arriving urgently, Riyad took me inside, saying it was a call from higher-ups. Inside, Shammi’s husband offered 5 lakh taka, saying, ‘Take this for tea and snacks. We are peace-loving people. I’ve been a service holder all my life, not involved in politics. Don’t harass us at this age.’ He asked who gave us their information and how we knew they were there. In exchange, he agreed to pay 5 lakh taka and left to arrange the money.”

The video has sparked significant controversy on social media. However, no official statement has been issued to verify Apu’s claims.
