The injured were rushed to Noakhali Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Due to the severity of their burns, two of the victims were transferred to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, according to their relatives.
The injured fishermen are Amzad Hossain (42), Abu Miah (40), Ganikha (45), and Faruk (39), all residents of the Charbangshi area in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila and fishermen by profession.
Local sources reported that the explosion occurred while the fishermen were preparing lunch on the trawler using a gas cylinder. The sudden blast caused chaos, with one fisherman, Delwar, jumping into the river to escape, while the other four were severely burned.
Nearby fishermen rescued the victims and initially took them to Ramgati Upazila Health Complex. Due to their critical condition, they were later transferred to Noakhali Sadar Hospital. Two of the victims, whose conditions were deemed life-threatening, were sent to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.
Safiul Islam, the officer-in-charge of Ramgati Barkheri River Police, confirmed the incident, stating, “The condition of the injured is critical. They have been sent to Noakhali Sadar Hospital for treatment.”
Dr. Kamna Sheesh Mazumdar, a health officer at Ramgati Health Complex, said, “Approximately 60% of the victims’ bodies have been burned. The condition of two of them is critical.”
The explosion has sparked panic in the area, raising concerns about the safety of gas cylinders. Locals are demanding stricter measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
