130 Crore Taka Worth of Cocaine Seized at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Passenger Detained

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department seized 8.66 kg of cocaine, valued at approximately 130 crore taka, from a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The seizure was made from a Qatar Airways flight arriving from Doha on the night of Monday, August 25.

According to a press release signed by Sonia Akter, Deputy Director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Circle, the operation was conducted based on confidential information. As soon as Qatar Airways flight QR638 was connected to the boarding bridge, the suspect passenger was identified. After completing immigration formalities, the passenger’s baggage was scanned in the Green Channel and inventoried following standard procedures. During the process, three plastic jars containing 22 oval-shaped foil packets of cocaine were discovered.

The press release further stated that the inventory and initial examination were conducted in the presence of two sub-inspectors from the Airport Police Station and members of other intelligence agencies. The seized cocaine weighed 8.66 kg, with an estimated market value of around 130 crore taka.

The Customs Intelligence Department confirmed that the passenger, along with the contraband, has been detained. Legal proceedings under criminal and customs laws are underway to address the smuggling attempt.
