Woman Posing as Sub-Inspector Arrested After Calling Constable ‘Sir’

In an unusual incident, a woman named Tania (27) was detained by law enforcement authorities for impersonating a police sub-inspector (SI) at Joydebpur Police Station in Gazipur. The incident occurred around 10 PM on Thursday.

According to police sources, Tania arrived at the police station to file a complaint regarding unpaid dues. She was wearing a police uniform under a burqa and introduced herself as a female sub-inspector. However, suspicion arose when she addressed a constable as ‘Sir,’ prompting the duty officer to investigate further. With the assistance of a female police officer, Tania was searched, and it was confirmed that she was not a member of the police force. Tania, a resident of Pirujali (Madhyapara) in Gazipur Sadar Upazila, is the daughter of Abu Taleb. Police seized a police uniform from her possession. Based on her statements, a raid was conducted at her residence, where additional police uniforms and various police-related equipment were recovered. Local sources and social media reports suggest that Tania frequently wore police uniforms and roamed various areas, posting photos and videos of herself in the attire on her Facebook account. Joydebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhid Ahmed confirmed the arrest, stating, “A woman named Tania, posing as a police officer, has been detained. On Friday (July 4), she was sent to court following the filing of a case. We are investigating her motives, the source of the police uniforms, and whether she was involved in any criminal activities. An application for her remand will be submitted.”
