Notorious Drug Lord with 23 Cases Killed in Comilla Knife Attack

Mamun Hossain (38), a notorious drug dealer with 23 criminal cases against him, was brutally killed in an attack by unidentified assailants in Comilla. The incident occurred around 11:45 PM on Friday night at the Gouripur Bus Stand along the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Daudkandi upazila.

Mamun, a resident of Sholakandi village under Jiarakandi Union in Titas upazila, was reportedly on his way to Cox’s Bazar in an AC coach with three women when he got off the bus to buy water. Eyewitnesses and police sources said that moments after he stepped down, a group of attackers approached him from behind and hacked him indiscriminately on the head with machetes. The assailants ensured his death before fleeing the scene.

Police from Daudkandi Model Police Station rushed to the location upon receiving the news. His body was first taken to Gouripur Hospital and later to the police station. On Saturday, the body was sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

Police suspect that the murder may have been the result of disputes over drug dealings or extortion.

Mamun’s father, Mokbul Hossain, expressed his anguish, saying, “Even if my son was involved in criminal activities, there are laws in the country. He should have faced legal punishment, not a brutal death in public. I want justice for my son's murder.”

Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zunaid Chowdhury confirmed Mamun's criminal background, stating, “He was accused in 23 cases related to drugs, weapons, theft, robbery, mugging, and rape. Just two months ago, he was arrested and later released on bail about a month ago.”

Following the post-mortem, Mamun’s body will be handed over to his family, police said. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the killing.
