Khagrachhari Court Sentences Man to 17 Years for Arms Act Violation

 On Sunday, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court (Special Tribunal-4) in Khagrachhari, presided over by Judge Shayla Sharmin, sentenced an accused individual to 17 years of rigorous imprisonment in the presence of the defendant.

The convicted individual, Khajendra Tripura (45), is a resident of Haripurna Para in Tykadang, Matiranga Upazila’s Sadar Union, and the son of Kishore Chan Tripura.

According to court sources, on January 6, 2021, a team from Chattogram RAB-7 conducted an operation based on confidential information and arrested Khajendra Tripura in front of Matiranga Municipality. He was found in possession of a pistol (LG), one magazine, and three rounds of ammunition. That same night, a case was filed against him under the Arms Act at Matiranga Police Station, and the following day, he was sent to judicial custody. After spending a few months in jail, Khajendra secured bail but remained absconding for a long period.

Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Jasim Uddin stated that after extensive legal arguments and evidence presentation, the court delivered its verdict on Sunday in the presence of the accused. Khajendra Tripura was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 19(A) and 7 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 19(F) of the Arms Act of 1878.
