Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal Blocks Shahbag Intersection, Clears After 15 Minutes

The Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal, a wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), blocked the Shahbag intersection in Dhaka on Tuesday evening around 6:15 PM to protest the deteriorating law and order situation and alleged conspiracies to destabilize the country. The blockade caused a complete halt in vehicular movement at this key intersection in the capital.

Approximately 15 minutes later, the Swecchasebak Dal leaders and activists vacated the intersection, allowing traffic to resume.

Earlier, around 4:00 PM, the group held a brief rally in front of their central office in Naya Paltan. From there, thousands of leaders and activists marched in a protest procession, reaching Shahbag around 5:00 PM and staging the blockade. The procession was led by BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Swecchasebak Dal President S M Jilani, and General Secretary Rajib Ahsan, among others. To manage the Swecchasebak Dal’s procession, all roads leading to Shahbag were closed in advance, causing significant inconvenience to the public. After a speech by Swecchasebak Dal President S M Jilani, the activists fully vacated the Shahbag intersection by around 6:30 PM, restoring normal traffic flow.
