According to the PBI, the arrested individual is Al-Amin (34), apprehended on Friday, 18 July, from the Tongi Railway Station area in Gazipur. On Saturday, 19 July, Al-Amin confessed to the rape and murder in a statement under Section 164 before a court. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect, identified as Saddam.
The PBI revealed that on 12 July, Al-Amin and Saddam met the 12-year-old boy at Kamalapur Railway Station, where he inquired about the schedule of a train to Barisal. They informed him that no trains were available for Barisal. Upon learning that the boy had not eaten for a day, they bought him food and shoes. Later that evening, they took him to Room 265 of Anowara Residential Hotel in Jatrabari. That night, the two men raped the boy, causing him to fall ill. The following morning, when they attempted to assault him again and the boy resisted, they became enraged, beat him with a belt, and strangled him to death.
Additional Police Superintendent of PBI, Abir Hossain, told Prothom Alo that on Monday, 14 July, hotel staff discovered the boy’s body while cleaning the room. Jatrabari Police Station recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue. The autopsy report is pending, and efforts are underway to confirm the boy’s identity, with details sent to relevant authorities in Barisal.
Police stated that a murder case was filed against unidentified individuals at Jatrabari Police Station on the day of the incident. Subsequently, PBI conducted a shadow investigation, identifying Al-Amin and Saddam through CCTV footage and technological assistance. Al-Amin has prior allegations of male rape against him.
