Police have recovered the throat-slit body of a fifth-grade student named Ifran Rahman Babu (13) from Taraganj upazila in Rangpur. The body was discovered around 10 a.m. on Tuesday (July 29) in the Ghanirampur Burapir area of Kusha Union under the upazila. It was later sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Babu was the son of van driver Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Damodarpur Panditpara village in Soyer Union of the same upazila. He was a student of class five at Burirhat Government Primary School.

According to local sources, Babu’s father fell ill on Monday. After returning home from school, Babu took his father’s van out in an attempt to earn some money. When he did not return home even after 10 p.m., the family began searching for him but could not locate him.

On Tuesday morning, the family learned from locals that a body with a slit throat had been found in the Ghanirampur Burapir area. Upon arriving at the scene, they identified the body as Babu's.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taraganj Police Station, M A Farooq Hossain, confirmed the recovery of the body and said it has been sent for post-mortem examination. Legal procedures are currently underway, he added.

The brutal killing of the young boy has sparked shock and outrage among the local community, while police continue to investigate the motive behind the murder.
