The injured individuals, identified as NCP’s Parbatipur representative Tarikul Islam and Jobaidur Rahman, were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
According to sources, the Ambari Haat was leased for the current fiscal year through a tender process for 115.6 million taka to local resident Anisur Rahman and a few others. On Monday morning, leaseholder Anisur Rahman, along with Tarikul, a representative of the haat’s lease share, and others, were overseeing the market’s maintenance and operations. During this time, a group led by Mostafapur Union Jubo Dal’s general secretary Abedur Rahman Abed, including individuals named Kakon, Ferdous, Shahadat, Nuruzzaman, and Belal, confronted Tarikul, accusing him of collecting excessive fees.
They demanded 50,000 taka per market day as a “toll” and asked to see the lease documents. This led to a heated argument, escalating into a tense situation. Eventually, a clash broke out, during which Tarikul and Jobaidur were attacked by Jubo Dal supporters.
Meanwhile, the upazila and police administration stated that the issue of lease shares is not their concern, and the person who secured the lease through proper documentation is the legitimate leaseholder.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Arifur Rahman of Ambari Police Outpost confirmed the clash, stating that upon receiving news of the incident between Tarikul and Abed, police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
