Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024: David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper

This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to three distinguished scientists: David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper. Their groundbreaking work in computational protein design and protein structure prediction has earned them this prestigious honor.

David Baker, a professor at the University of Washington, was recognized for his innovative contributions to computational protein design.  His research has led to the creation of entirely new kinds of proteins with potential applications in pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and nanomaterials

Demis Hassabis and John Jumper, both members of Google's DeepMind project, were honored for their work on the AI model AlphaFold2, which has revolutionized protein structure prediction. This achievement has solved a decades-long problem and holds enormous potential for advancing scientific research and medical treatments

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the award, highlighting the significant impact of their work on the field of chemistry and beyond.

This recognition underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and technological innovation in pushing the boundaries of scientific discovery.
