Dighinala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zakaria confirmed the incident, stating that the clash took place between the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS, main faction) and the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) Prasit group in the Jora Sindhu Karbaripara area around 8:30 PM. Four UPDF members were killed in the gunfire exchange.
According to OC Zakaria, both groups were still in a confrontational stance as of the latest reports. Due to the remote location, police have been unable to reach the site independently and are coordinating with the army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to access the area.
However, Angya Marma, spokesperson for UPDF’s publicity and publication department, issued a press release denying any involvement of their group in the incident. “We have no connection with the incident in Dighinala and are unaware of any such event,” the statement read.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed due to the inaccessibility of the area. Khagrachhari District Police Superintendent Md. Arefin Jewel stated, “We have received reports of the clash, but full details regarding casualties are yet to be verified. Law enforcement agencies are working to bring the situation under control.”
The incident has heightened tensions in the region, with local authorities intensifying patrols in collaboration with the army and BGB to restore calm.
